What do you need to do if you have an accident or the vehicle breaks down?

Firstly, we hope that everyone involved is okay. If not, please contact the emergency services before anything else. In the event of an accident or damage to the vehicle occurring, the following must happen:

All accidents or occurrences of damage must be reported to the police immediately, regardless of whether it was caused by you or a third party. Even if no third party was involved.

As the renter of a SIXT share car, you are obliged to ensure that SIXT receives all the information necessary to assess the incident. Please therefore contact SIXT share customer service by phone at the scene of the accident. Do not leave the scene of the accident until you have done so.

Even in the event of an accident or damage, the rental will only end after the vehicle has been returned. If the car is no longer roadworthy, the rental period will end once the car has been taken away by the towing company, after consultation with customer service.

Please send your written account of the accident or the completed SIXT damages form – ideally with photos of all the damage and details about the location of the incident – to SIXT share customer service. Be sure to inform SIXT share about the police file number.

For more details about what to do in the event of an accident or damage, please refer to the SIXT share General Terms and Conditions.
