Cars from SIXT share can be reserved for 15 minutes, MILES cars for 10 minutes and Free2move cars for 20 minutes.
If you do not start the rental within this time, the reservation expires free of charge and the car is released again.
FAQ
Free2move
New vehicle damage to a carsharing car should be reported directly to the respective customer service.
In the hvv switch app you can display already reported damage of the reserved car for inspection before the start of the rental. At this point, you will have the opportunity to contact the respective customer service directly to give up new damages, both by e-mail and by telephone..
If you notice any damage to a SIXT share car, please send an email with license plate number and photo(s) directly to schaden@sixt.com before you start your trip.
SIXT share
You will find the car key for SIXT share vehicles in the glove compartment. Please put the car key back in this glove compartment once you park up at the end of your rental, and then lock the car using the app. If the key isn’t in the glove compartment as it should be, please contact SIXT share customer service.
MILES
MILES cars and Mercedes Sprinters can be opened via the start/stop button. The other transporters are started with an ignition key, which is located in the glove compartment.
Free2move
With Free2move, most vehicles no longer have a car key. They can be easily opened and locked via the app. If a vehicle does need a key, you will find it in the glove compartment.
The rental may be terminated within the Hamburg business area (exception: MILES vehicles may also be parked in other cities with MILES business area), at a hvv switch point (as long as it is located in the business territory of the respective partner) or, if it is a rented car from SIXT share, at a SIXT rental station (also outside Hamburg in other cities). You must ensure that the car is properly parked in permitted places in the public road space, according to the road traffic regulations for the next 48 hours. The rental may not be terminated in parking zones with parking discs and in residents' parking spaces.
If you want to return your SIXT Share car to a SIXT station, you can find information here.
As a general rule, parking is not permitted in the following locations or areas:
- In parking garages, underground garages or on other covered parking areas.
- In private parking lots (parking garage, backyard)
- In residents' parking lots
- In parking spaces with time restrictions that still come into effect within 48h after the vehicle is parked (see General Terms and Conditions).
- In designated parking areas for electric vehicles (exception: e-vehicles)
- In no-parking areas that are outlined in red on the map in the hvv switch app.
cambio and Dorfstromer offer station-based car sharing, i.e. the start and end of the rental always take place at the same hvv switch point. The rental of cambio and Dorfstromer cars may only ever be ended at the hvv switch point at which the rental was started.
SIXT share & Free2move
The vehicle registration document is located in the glove compartment of SIXT share & Free2move cars.
MILES
For administrative reasons, no copies of the vehicle registration document are stored in MILES cars. If necessary (e.B. at a police check) they will be provided by email.
You can park in any publicly accessible parking lot (free of charge within the business areas) of a city, the hvv switch points and in the designated areas at Hamburg Airport. In "parking ticket zones" please be sure to use a parking disc. A parking ticket is not required here. In designated "parking disc zones", the parking time is also limited. Please use the parking disc in your car and display it visibly. The rental period cannot be terminated in "parking disc zones", but intermediate parking is possible.
Comprehensive overviews of the basic parking rules can also be found at SIXT share, Free2move and MILES. Familiarize yourself with the parking rules and note that other rules apply outside the Hamburg business area.
Basically, the parking guidelines apply according to the locally valid road traffic regulations.
International driving licenses are not accepted for using the car sharing services in the hvv switch app. We accept driving licenses in card format issued in the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland.
If you are not yet eligible to borrow a vehicle due to your age and/or the length of time you have held your driver's license, the corresponding vehicles will be marked with a lock on the card. The following minimum requirements apply for using the car sharing services of our partners:
SIXTshare: minimum age 21 years // minimum driving license possession 0 years.
MILES:
- The following applies to vehicle categories S, M, L, XL: Minimum age 18 years // Minimum driving license possession 1 year
- For vehicle category P (Premium) the following applies: Minimum age 23 years // Minimum driving license possession 1 year
Free2move: Free2move offers different vehicle classes (XS, S, M, L), which can be used with different minimum ages: Minimum age 18 years for vehicle class XS, minimum age 21 years for vehicle classes S, M, L.
In the SIXTshare vehicle fleet, there are also some premium class vehicle models that may only be borrowed from a later age and/or a longer driver's license possession period.
- Open the car via the app and take the charging card from the glove compartment/armrest.
- Deactivate the charging station and end the charging process with the card.
- Then pull the charging cable out of the charging station and then unplug it from the vehicle.
- Wind up the cable once and place it back in the trunk.
- Please also put the card back into the respective holder in the car.
Unfortunately, we are not yet able to offer you a refueling or charging function for Free2move vehicles within the app.
Charging
You can charge the Free2move e-cars with the charging card in the car. You can find out exactly how to do this here.
Refueling
If you urgently need fuel for your car, e.g. to get back to the business area, the fuel costs must be paid privately. Send the receipts to hallo@free2move.com after the journey, stating the booking number, license plate number and account details. After successful verification, the fuel costs will be reimbursed by Free2move. However, the check may take some time - please be patient.
Important for you to know: Charging and refueling cars at hvv switch is not incentivized by e.g. free minutes or credits or similar.
