Bikesharing
It is not possible to change your plan during an active subscription.
If the lock won't open, there could be several reasons:
- Blocked spokes: The spokes on the rear wheel may be blocking the lock. Gently wiggle the rear wheel, then try to open the lock again.
- Stuck lock lever: The lock lever may be stuck. Gently pull or jiggle the red lever after unlocking the bike via the app.
- Report damage: If the lock still does not work, report the damage using the damage report form on the details page of the respective StadtRAD in the app. Please include the bike number and select the category “Lock defective.”
- If the bike has already been rented, contact hvv@stadtradhamburg.de or call 040 - 18 00 43 370 to end the rental.
If you end your rental outside of a station, your trip will automatically be paused. We’ll notify you of this in the app and via text message. You’ll then have 24 hours to choose one of the following options:
- Continue your trip and then return the bike to a station.
- Keep the trip paused (for up to 24 hours).
If you do not take any action within this time, the rental will automatically end after 24 hours.
In addition to the ride price, a fee of up to 25 euros will then be charged.
Open the QR code scanner in the app and scan the QR code on a bike whose light on the lock is flashing green.
Start renting a bike by swiping right on the Swipe button on the bike's details page in the app.
Sometimes the system may not recognize that you've returned the bike, even though you've parked it at a station. In that case, try parking the bike a few meters further down at the same station and try returning it again.

Yes, you must be at least 18 years old to sign up. Registration is not available to anyone under 18.
However, minors aged 14 and older may use the bikes when accompanied by a registered adult. Please note: The available bikes have a 26" frame and, thanks to the adjustable saddle, are suitable for riders between approximately 1.50 m and 2.00 m in height. Special children’s bikes are not available.
You can report damage directly in the app via the details page for the specific bike. To do so, select the “Report Damage” option—the bike number will be submitted automatically. Thank you for your support!
Please note: Reporting damage does not automatically end the ride or result in a correction to the bill.
