We’re almost there now – take us home.
We wandered the emptiest streets we’d ever seen
across the fish market, deserted for the first time in 300 years
a red and silver train winds its way through the city
slowly emerging at Landungsbrücken from the tunnel of the night
bringing folk together or taking them home
a new band performs, hears their first applause.
and after, the taxis hoop their horns along the Reeperbahn
we were alone a long while and now united again.
how many streets there are in this city
how long one must tread to have walked them all
and how long will it take – from here to the finish line
will we remember, how long and how many?
come on, let’s do something together, go somewhere
do something we simply, wholly love for no reason
and that’s what we'll remember then turn off the lights
we’re almost there now – take us home
